Lemon drizzle cake is a type of cake filled with lemon curd and cream. It was served at the Luchino Caffe, an all-night Italian café on Tottenham Court Road in London, where it cost £2.00.[1]

Behind the scenes

  • The appearance of "lemon drizzle cake" beside "carrot cake" on the menu at Luchino Caffe might be a reference to a Little Britain sketch featuring nonsensical character Ray McCooney, innkeeper of the "Ye Olde Hotele", in which he is asked if his cakes contain nuts. He proceeds to ask the cakes "Carrot cake, carrot cake, have ye any nuts?" and "Lemon drizzle cake, lemon drizzle cake, have ye any nuts?" and then putting the cakes to his ears to listen to the answer from them. Then he would turn to the customers and say "The [cake name] contains... no nuts" and went on to ask the next cake.
