The ladybird is a species of small beetle which can be found everywhere around the world. The Patronus of Symposia Rawle took the form of the ladybird which was exceptionally powerful, in spite of its minuscule size.
Behind the scenes
'Ladybird' is the term used in Commonwealth, however the official name for this family of beetle is 'coccinellidae'. Other nations and groups give various names to the same beetle, including;
- 'Ladybug' - a term which originates from North America.
- 'Lady cow' - another term used, however from an unknown origin.
- 'Ladybird beetle' or 'lady beetle' - the preferred term of entomologists.
