"Their eyes were shut, their ears just a flap of skin not yet fully formed and their skin was red and translucent."
His father's description of he and his brother right after their birth[src]

Jack Monk (b. 20 May, 1995[1]) was a Muggle boy, the son of Dave and Tilly Monk, and the twin brother of Tom.

He and his brother were born prematurely, delivered simultaneously as what their father described as a "bundle," and received immediate medical care from "an amazing neonatal team." After twelve weeks in the NICU, during which time they were kept in incubators, receiving vital fluids through intravenous lines and breathing with the help of mechanical ventilators, the twins were able to go home with their parents. By this time, Jack weighed four pounds, having weighed only one pound, seven ounces at birth.

The twins' father wrote an article about their miraculous birth, which was featured on the front page of the 12 August, 1995 issue of Metro, under the title "Miracle babies make it".[2]

Notes and references

  1. 1.0 1.1 The prop issue of Metro in which the article about Jack and Tom's birth is featured appears in the Underground scene in the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, just before Harry Potter's disciplinary hearing on 12 August, 1995. The body of the article says that "It would be twelve weeks in total before a fully recovered Tilly and I could bring our boys home for the first time." Twelve weeks is eighty-four days, and eighty-four days before 12 August is 20 May. The prop issue itself is dated 1 December, 2006, but this is inconsistent with the canonical timeline of the Harry Potter series.
