Iwo Jima was a volcanic island belonging to Japan. It was part of the Volcano Islands, a group of three islands located several hundred kilometres south of the main Japanese archipelago, and was home to a Japanese Muggle airbase.
Mahoutokoro, the Japanese wizarding school, was located on the island of Minami Iwo Jima sixty kilometres to the south. Students playing Quidditch at this school had to be careful to avoid planea from Iwo Jima's airbase.
