The Israelite-Philistine war was a military conflict between the Israelites, under King Saul, and their enemies the Philistines in the Valley of Elah.[1]
Goliath, a Giant mercenary employed by the Philistines, challenged the Israelites to send out a champion of their own to decide the outcome of the war in a single combat. A young boy accepted the challenge, as all the Israelites fear Goliath. The boy hurled a stone from his sling, hitting Goliath on the forehead, and then proceeded to slay him.[2]
