Isla Hitchens (née Black) was a pure-blood witch and the sister of Sirius, Phineas Nigellus, and Elladora Black. She married a Muggle man named Bob Hitchens, and was struck off the Black Family tree and disowned as a result. Her dates are unknown, but she was born after Phineas and before Elladora.[1]

Behind the scenes

  • Isla was maybe a daughter of Cygnus Black, and her uncle was Arcturus.
  • Based on a statement by Horace Slughorn, Isla may have been a member of the Slytherin House. However, she attended Hogwarts in the 1850s and 1860s, when Slughorn wasn't Potions teacher.
  • Isla was the second earliest known disowned person in the family. The earliest known was Eduardus Limette Black.

Etymology

Isla is the Spanish word for "island". It is also an archaic spelling of the Scottish island Islay, and the name of two rivers in Scotland. Her name probably refers to her isolation from the rest of the Black family.
