India is a large country located in Southern Asia. It is the second most popululated country in the world. It borders at least six countries as being China, Pakistan, Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Burma.
There are hardly any broomsticks in India as the flying carpet is the preferred mode of travel. Despite this, Quidditch has some fans on the street,[1] and India has its own National Quidditch team.[2] The Occamy is native to India.[3]
The Snake Summons Spell was invented in India. It is illegally used by "Snake Charmers" to profit from entertaining Muggles. As it is illegal, the Indian Ministry of Magic presumably punishes these select wizards for breaching the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy.
Kalale is located in India and apparently houses a wizarding community, as the Daily Prophet considered its weather of note in its International section.
Behind the scenes
- Twins in Harry Potter's year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Parvati and Padma Patil are probably of Indian descent due to their surnames.
