"It was as though the broom was trying to buck him off."
— The Hurling Hex's effects[src]

A Hurling Hex is a hex that is used to cause broomsticks to vibrate violently in the air and try to buck their rider off.

History

1991

In 1991, Quirinus Quirrell was most likely casting a wordless and wandless version of this spell on Harry Potter's broom during his first Quidditch match. This would be a foreshadowing to the fact that Quirrell was being possessed by Voldemort, as only wizards of extremly high power can do wandless magic, and it was implied that Quirrell was not extremely talented.

1993

"...Professor Flitwick believes the broom might be carrying a Hurling Hex."
— The Hurling Hex[src]

In 1993, Filius Flitwick suggested that Harry Potter's confiscated Firebolt might have been jinxed with this spell.
