Hungary (Hungarian: Magyarország) is a country in Central Europe. It is situated in the Carpathian Basin and is bordered by Slovakia to the north, Ukraine and Romania (Transylvania region) to the east, Serbia and Croatia to the south, Slovenia to the southwest and Austria to the west. Hungary's capital is Budapest.

Since Gellert (Gellért) is the Hungarian version of the name Gerard, it is most likely that Gellert Grindelwald was from Hungary (which was the part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire that time).

However, he could also have been part German, due to his surname.
