The fictional Babbitty Rabbity featured in one of the tales of Beedle the Bard's made a horse levitate.[2]

There are magical versions of horses in the wizarding world, such as winged horses and unicorns. The lower bodies of centaurs are of horses, which makes some wizards and witches to mistake them as half-breeds of horses and humans. The body of a Hippogriff is half-horse and half-eagle.[3]

It is a possible corporeal form of the Patronus Charm.[4] Ginny Weasley's Patronus is a horse.

Behind the scenes

  • In his first flying lesson, when Harry Potter's broomstick was one of the only ones to fly up to his hand on his command, he noted Hermione and Neville had failed to do the same and thought that broomsticks might be like horses, able to tell when one was afraid.[5]
