The horned toad is a type of toad indiginous to arid regions. It is known to Muggles, although it is also used in the brewing of certain potions.

In the 1994–1995 school year, Professor Snape assigned Neville Longbottom the task of disemboweling a barrel full of horned toads as punishment for melting his sixth cauldron in Potions class.
