The Hogwarts Thestral Herd is a herd of Thestrals employed at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. There are about a 100 of the creatures. They live in the Forbidden Forest . The herd started out with one male and five females. Tenebrus was the first to be bred in the forest. The Gamekeeper Rubeus Hagird helps take care of the creatures. They are mainly used to pull the Hogwarts carriages up to the school from Hogsmeade Station to the Entrance Gates for Second-Seventh years. The Thestrals are sometimes used by Albus Dumbledore when he goes on a long journey and doesn't want to Apparate. These Thestrals are trained to go to whereever you tell them to if you ride them: they have a amazing sense of direction. Hagrid the trainer and breeder of the herd reckons that the herd is the only large herd trained in Great Britain. He thinks they prefer his presence. They are trained to not attack Owls but will attack birds. They also don't hurt any students.

- Unidentified Thestrals - The six thestrals that let Harry Potter,Ronald Weasley, Hermione Granger, Ginevra Weasley, Neville Longbottom and Luna Lovegood ride to the Ministry of Magic.
