Etymology
Hobday is an English surname chiefly found in the West Midlands.[1] It derives from Hob, a medieval short form of the male given name Robert, combined with the Middle English word day, meaning "servant."[1][2]" The full meaning of the surname could thus be interpreted as either "Hob the servant" or "servant of Hob."[1]
