Herpo the Foul's Basilisk was the first recorded Basilisk in History. It was bred by Herpo the Foul, a Greek Dark Wizard, who discovered after much experimentation that a chicken egg hatched beneath a toad would produce this gigantic serpent. This particular Basilisk is believed to have lived for close on nine centuries. It is also possible that it destroyed Herpo's Horcrux, as it is not known if the spell to conjure Fiendfyre existed in that time, it is most likely the only thing able to destroy it.
