The Heat-Health Alert system is an emergency alert system maintained by the Met Office to warn Great Britain's Muggle populace about the possibility of dangerously high temperatures during the summer months. During the summer of 1995, when Britain was suffering a heat wave, the Met Office issued a Level 3 Heat-Health Alert, the first one in the history of the system, as temperatures had risen above 90 degress Fahrenheit in London and were similar throughout the country.[1]

Behind the scenes

  • In reality, the Met Office's high heat warning system is called the Heat-Health Watch, not Alert. It is possible it was confused with the related Cold Weather Alert also ran by the Met Office. However, the temperatures mentioned on the prop are indeed consistent with a Level 3 Heat-Health Watch, which is issued when temperatures hit above 32 degress Celsius in London.[2]
