A Healer is the wizarding world equivalent of a Muggle doctor. They tend to the sick and injured at St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries, which is England's wizarding community's primary hospital.
Healers practice and utilize Healing magic, a branch of magic devoted to improving the physical and mental condition of a being.
Nature
Wizard doctors are known as Healers and Mediwizards. While small infirmaries exist, such as the Hogwarts hospital wing run by Madame Pomfrey who is said to be a matron, there may be different ranks of nurses like there is in the Muggle world. For example: matron, sister, staff nurse, nurse, and student nurse. There are Healers at Quidditch games as well. The central establishment in England for this purpose is St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries, where various magical diseases, such as "dragon pox", "spattergroit", and "Vanishing Sickness" are treated. Healers also treat problems ranging from animal bites to cauldron explosions.
A Healer's uniform is a lime green robe with a sign of a bone and a wand crossed on it.
Healing Magic
Healing magic is a branch of magic used by Healers and Mediwizards to treat the sick or wounded. There are many different types of spells in this branch of magic, that have a variety of effects. There are also a vast group of potions that are dedicated to healing as well. Witches and wizards who specialize in this area of magic are known as healers.
Magical medication is also implemented and is normally related to healing potions, though there are other medications that exists too (such as chocolate). There are some described below:
Potion | Effect |
---|---|
Skele-Gro | Causes vanished or otherwise lost bones to regrow in a notably slow and painful process |
Pepperup Potion | Cures the common cold |
Blood-Replenishing Potion | Tops up the blood levels of the drinker after blood loss from injury or otherwise |
Wiggenweld Potion | Power to awaken a person from a magically-induced sleep |
Requirement
To become a Healer, you have to have excellent academic credentials, at least five N.E.W.T.s, with a high mark of either 'Outstanding' or 'Exceeds Expectations' at Potions, Transfiguration, Herbology, Charms, and Defence Against the Dark Arts.
