Differences between the book/movie and this game version[]

  • Peeves does not appear in the film, but is battled on a regular basis in this game.
  • In the book and movie, Neville breaks his wrist after falling off a broomstick from a great height during the flying lesson, which allows Malfoy to steal his remembrall. In this game adaptation (along with the PC/Mac version), Neville is not seen flying or wrist-broked at all, nor does he appear at Harry's Flying lesson. Instead, he gets upset after it, when he arrives and reveals that Malfoy has stolen his Remembrall. In addition, Neville's anxiety is explained as having lost Trevor again, and needing his Remembrall to find him. Finally, in the book, PC/Mac and this version of the game, Malfoy says he might leave Neville's Remembrall on a tree for him to find. In the film, he suggests to leave it on the roof.
  • In the film and book, Harry's broomstick is jinxed in the first Quidditch match. In this version, neither Quidditch matches have Jinxed brooms or accidents.
  • Harry first encounters Snape after his first Quidditch game, where he informs Harry that Potions class will not not begin until a stolen sloth brain is found. Harry discovers that Fred and George stole it, and returns it to Snape. Harry also gets trapped in the dungeons during Potions class, which doesn't happen in the book or the film.
  • Norbert appears early in the game, unlike in the book and movie where he appears nearly at the end of the story. Norbert also gets sick in this version, forcing Harry and Hagrid to visit Diagon Alley for an antidote.
  • In the book, Draco challenges Harry to a duel, which turns out to be a trick that results in him ending up in the Forbidden Corridor. The challenge is removed in the game, and Harry and Draco have a brief fight involving Wizard Crackers instead. As a result, Harry doesn't accidentally enter the forbidden corridor nor does he encounter Fluffy until it's time to get past him.
  • Christmas and Hallowe'en are omitted in this version, and Harry instead receives a parcel containing the Invisibility CloakPeeves steals it, but returns it after Harry defeats him in a race.
  • Unlike the book and film, Harry does not search the Restricted Section of the library for information on the Philosopher's Stone. Rather, his encounter with Filch involves him exploring the Forbidden Corridor shortly after receiving the Invisibility Cloak.
  • In the novel, Hermione burns the Devil's Snare with fire before it can suffocate Harry and Ron. In this game it traps Ron and Hermione instead, forcing Harry to fight it alone.
  • Quirrell's second mountain troll appears in this version, but it wakes up when Harry and Hermione enter the room. Unable to ignore it, Harry has to use Wingardium Leviosa to clear a path for it, causing it to fall into a pit.
  • Snape's Potion riddle is changed into a cup game where Harry has to defeat the correct Suit of armour that holds the Ice potion.
  • In the book, Quirrell summons ropes to tie Harry by snapping his fingers. In the film, Quirrell snaps his fingers to make fire surround the area. In this game, Quirrell does not make fire surround the area, but green ropes do tie themselves around Harry at times.
