The Department of Mysteries is a panel of Harry Potter Wiki editors who review, monitor, and improve all aspects of Featured articles, including Featured article nominations. They are known as Unspeakables.

Roles of the Unspeakables

The following are duties of the Unspeakables:

  1. Review all Featured articles nominations and either A) approve or B) reject them in an Unspeakable vote, based on the quality and adherence to FA criteria of the article. Unspeakables should include {{Unvote}} before their sigs to make vote counting easier.
  2. Strike unnecessary or irrelevant objections from the FA nomination page. Unspeakables have the power to strike objections on the Featured articles nominations page provided the objection has been addressed and the original objector has been absent for at least a week after an "objection addressed" comment is left on the FA nom page, but only with a quorum of at least 2 Unspeakables approving the removal of the objection, and less than two opposed. Additionally, FA objections can be struck by the Unspeakable (as well as by any member) if they do not fall under one of the rules.
  3. Review and possibly remove FA status from an article. Unspeakables also have the ability to strip an article of FA status, but only with approval of at least 2 Prefects.

2012 modifications

In 2012, the guidelines were modified to place less emphasis on unspeakables and more on community input, in order to keep the process of featured articles moving forward. Admins/unspeakables will continue to monitor and vote on featured articles, but any article with the support of at least five users and no objections will be promoted.
