A handkerchief is usually small square of cloth used especially for wiping the nose or mouth, although it can vary in sizes. Minerva McGonagall owned a lace handkerchief, and Rubeus Hagrid owned a large spotted handkerchief the size of a tablecloth. Ron Weasley also had a handkerchief which he used in 1997 to clean the oven at The Burrow in preparation for the Delacours' arrival, and which he offered to Hermione Granger when she started to cry while discussing the trio's search for the Horcruxes.
