Halloween is a holiday celebrated by both Muggles and the Wizarding world. At Hogwarts, there is a feast every year on Halloween and the first Hogsmeade weekend of the year usually occurs on the same day.

Important events occuring on Halloween
In each of the first four books, an important plot development occured on Halloween.
- Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - Harry Potter and Ron Weasley save Hermione Granger from a troll in the girls' bathroom.
- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets - Harry, Ron and Hermione attend Nearly Headless Nick's deathday party. Ginny Weasley, under the influence of Tom Riddle's diary, opens the Chamber of Secrets.
- Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - Sirius Black attacks the Fat Lady with the result that the entire school had to sleep in sleeping bags in the Great Hall
- Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - the champions from Durmstrang and Beauxbatons arrive at Hogwarts for the Triwizard Tournament
Another notable event that occured on Halloween was Harry's original defeat of Lord Voldemort, which was specified by Hagrid in the first book. In both Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince there is no mention of the Halloween Feast. In the films it is never stated that the opening of the Chamber and attack on the Fat Lady occured on Halloween. In the fourth film, the arrival of the champions from Durmstrang and Beauxbatons occured on the first day of school.
