"Haliwinkles" may be decomposed into "hali-" which derives from the Greek 'hals' ("salt") or 'halos' ("sea") and "-winkle" which although is a derivative of 'wincel' ("to entwine, bind, fetter") may come from "winkle" the Common Periwinkle's nickname (Littorinidae). Just as likely is that it could be a reference to the shellfish winkles, which would make sense with the "hali-" prefix.
