- "Born in the mid-eighteenth century Gulliver Pokeby was an expert on magical birds. Acknowledged as the first wizard to identify the meaning of Augurey song, Pokeby penned Why I Didn't Die When the Augurey Cried."
- — Pokeby's Frog Card[src]
Gulliver Pokeby (1750 - 1839) was a Magizoologist, expert on magical birds, and the author of Why I Didn't Die When the Augurey Cried. He was the first to identify that the Augurey's cries meant rain was coming, rather than impending death. [1] He was immortalised on a Chocolate Frog Card, which featured him wearing his golden pocket watch.[2]
Etymology
Gulliver is French for glutton.
