Griffin claws are the claws of the griffin, a magical creature with the front of an eagle and the hindquarters of a lion. It is not specified whether the claws are from the talons of the eagle half of the animal, or the claws of the lion half. When powdered, the claw can be used as an ingredient in the Strengthening Solution.
History
In 1995, while writing on essay on the correct method of brewing Strengthening Solutions for Professor Snape, Harry Potter put the wrong weight for powdered griffin claw four times, as he was destracted by Fred and George Weasley's demonstration of Puking Pastilles.[1]
