Heathgate is a street located in the Hampstead Garden Suburb.[1] It was the area of the Grangers' home. The street was a four point cross of roads with houses along each side of the roads, at the top of the street was a church.[2]
History[]
Hermione Granger was a Muggle-born witch living on this Muggle street, and each year since 1991 to 1996, she left this area to go to King's Cross Station to travel to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Hermione lived on this street with her parents, Mr and Mrs Granger, and her pet cat Crookshanks. Hermione left her family home in the summer of 1997 without any idea of when, or if, she would ever return in order to help her best friends Harry Potter and Ron Weasley search for and destroy Lord Voldemort's Horcruxes.[2]
Hermione's parents, under the influence of a false memory spell cast by their daughter, moved to Australia, where they would be safe from the Death Eaters.[3] It is unknown if the Granger family returned to their home here after Hermione restored her parents' true memories following Voldemort's downfall. It is also unknown if Hermione's cat Crookshanks ever returned to the family home after he escaped a Death Eater raid at The Burrow.
Behind the scenes[]
- This street first appears in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1. It has never before been mentioned in the books. In an original draft of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, the Granger family's home was near the coast near where the Potter family lived on an island.
- The film location is near the corner of Heathgate and Meadway in Hampstead Garden Suburb, northwest London. The church at the north end of the street is St Jude On-The-Hill Anglican Parish Church.
- Hermione's full address, as revealed in her Hogwarts acceptance letter, is "8 Heathgate, Hampstead Garden Suburb, London".
