Godric's Hollow, named after Godric Gryffindor, is the village where Lily and James Potter lived when they were hiding from Lord Voldemort. Both Lily and James were murdered in 1981 by Voldemort in their home in the village, at which time Voldemort lost a great deal of his powers while attempting to murder Harry Potter. James and Lily's bodies are laid to rest here, as well as Ignotus Peverell, a pureblood ancestor of Harry Potter's and the original owner of the Invisibility Cloak (one of the Deathly Hallows), which was passed down through his family line and eventually came into the possession of Harry Potter.

It is also the village that Albus Dumbledore and his family resided in when tragedies occurred in his family, such as the death of his mother and sister, Ariana.

Harry returns to Godric's Hollow with Hermione in the Deathly Hallows in search of information from Bathilda Bagshot, and they are almost killed by Nagini, who has taken over the body of Bathilda, who had been killed months previously, in anticipation of Harry's return.

During Harry's return to Godric's Hollow, Harry also visits the remains of his parents home. Upon touching the fence of the house (which is now in ruins), with his wand, several messages appear. These were left for him by other witches and wizards, who anticipated his return, throughout the years after the death of his parents and the first falling of the Dark Lord. It is during this occurrence that they finally meet up with Bathilda, who is later revealed to actually be Nagini in disguise, the real Bathilda having been dead for quite some time now.
