The Giant Fire Crab is a larger variation of the fire crab. It is endemic to the rainforest in Fiji, and has been near extinction due to hunting by unscrupulous wizard poachers. Some of them actually fled to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. [1]
In Marauding with Monsters, Gilderoy Lockhart conveys the tale of how he was confronted with a horde of Fire Crabs, while campaigning to save the Giant Fire Crabs but stopping to perform "certain urgent ablutions" under a banyan tree.[2] The veracity of these events is doubtful, given Lockhart's theft of other people's achievements.
