• In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, it is stated that only wizards and witches can become ghosts. This may indicate that ghost horses are actually wizards who died while transfigured, or that they are merely extensions of ghost of the witch or wizard they belonged to, in much the same manner as the ghosts' clothing.
