Gargoyle refers to a carved stone or statue with ugly monstrous design. Since medieval times, gargoyle statues are commonly seen in many structures and buildings. The Hogwarts Castle also have many gargoyle statues, one is placed in the entrance to the Headmaster's office located in the second floor and described as a extremely ugly statue, it becomes to life when a correct password is spoken.[1] Another gargoyle statues are also seen in Hogwarts' Paved Courtyard connected to the Viaduct, There's also in Clock Tower Courtyard. And two gargoyle statues, guarded the entrance to the staffroom, having the ability to talk.[2]

Gargoyle is originally designed to convey water from a roof and away from the side of a building.

From the French gargouille, meaning "throat" or "gullet". In Latin gurgulio, gula, and similar words derived from the root gar, meaning "to swallow", which represented the gurgling sound of water.
