A French Fancy is a British variety of iced sponge cake, resembling petits fours. It is two square layers of cake with a flavoured filling topped with a dollop of buttercream all wrapped in a layer of fondant. They are very sweet, often being comprised of up to 50% sugar and most often come in strawberry, lemon, and chocolate. It was served at the Luchino Caffe, an all-night Italian café on Tottenham Court Road in London, where it cost £1.70.

Mr. Kipling, the main British manufacturer of French Fancies, usually makes them in the abvoe-mentioned flavours, with the colours thus being pink, yellow and dark brown; but for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in summer 2012, they produced "limited edition" packs in red, white and blue. It is not known what flavours these were.
In one previous year, they also produced a Halowe'en pack where the flavours were orange and chocolate, allowing the colours to be the Halowe'en colours of orange and black (or brown in this case).
