A French Fancy is a British variety of iced sponge cake, resembling petits fours. It is two square layers of cake with a flavoured filling topped with a dollop of buttercream all wrapped in a layer of fondant. They are very sweet, often being comprised of up to 50% sugar and most often come in strawberry, lemon, and chocolate. It was served at the Luchino Caffe, an all-night Italian café on Tottenham Court Road in London, where it cost £1.70.[1]
