In first year, Hermione used "Petrificus Totalus" on Neville Longbottom to prevent him from stopping Harry while he was saving the Philosopher's Stone. Why didn't she use Petrificus Totalus on Lupin when he turned into a werewolf in POA? Why didn't she use it on Pettigrew while he was running away? There are many examples of places Petrificus Totalus could have made things easier for the trio, so... why didn't they use it?

There is no evidence that such a spell would work on a werewolf, also in the text everything happens for a reason, thinking of ways they could have had a better outcome from a bad situation is doing JKR a disservice. Every action matters in the shaping of our Heroes, if Sirius had been freed and survived, would Harry have been strong enough to sacrifice himself in the end? Dumbledore himself says that the consequences of actions are so varied and complex, that it is impossible to know what would have happened if they had acted differently. --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 16:32, December 2, 2010 (UTC)
