None of this actually answers the initial question of the purpose of the veil. Why is there a portal to the land of the dead sitting in the middle of the room? What purpose does it serve other than to kill people? -[[User:Ka'lel|Ka'lel]] 21:14, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

Forums: Index > The Wizengamot > What is the purpose of the Viel that Serius falls behind, how did it kill him?

What is the Viel that kills Serius? If the spell didnt kill Serius how did the Viel? I know Dumbledore explains this but I dont feel like rereading the Order of the Pheonix.

The Veil is a portal to the Land of dead. Once stepped inside you are dead and cannot get back to the real world --Bongo2009 Gryffindor 20:09, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

It could also refer to the veil of death which a coffin passes through during a funeral, once a coffin had passed through it it would not come back, just like when sirius passed through the veil in the department of mysteries, he could not come back.

It wasn't the veil that killed Sirius though was it? Wasn't it Bellatrix that killed him?Still Learning 14:16, 11 August 2009 (UTC)

Bellatrix blasted him through the veil Leopardstarismyleader 19:50, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

It is different in the book to the film, in the film Bellatrix uses "Avada Kedavra" which probably killed him before he entered but in the book it is an unnamed spell that pushes him in but anyway he is still dead because the viel is like a "Portal to Heaven" --Bongo2009 Gryffindor Talk 21:07, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Either way Bellatrix still killed him.Still Learning 20:18, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

The film doesn't make any sense though as Avada Kedavra kills instantly but Sirius takes a look round before he goes through the veil--MiniwallyRavenclaw(Owl me!) 00:56, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

Perhaps that "look around" was shot in slow motion for emotional emphasis and Yates wanted it that way. Dumbledore's death (bless him) was very similar to Sirius' death (bless him) in case no one noticed. Both fell very slowly into veil/down to the ground.Still Learning 11:35, 25 August 2009 (UTC)

Siruis is killed by avada kedavra and then his spirit floats through the veil that all spirits go through when they are passing on.Mattbrown14

That is in the movie. As what is discussed above, in the movie Bellatrix shot the Killing Curse at him. However in the book it is an unknown curse that knocked him backwards into the veil.Still Learning 16:05, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
