On some character articles, such as Harry Potter and Tom Riddle, disputes on the images used in the infobox have resulted in votes being held to settle the matter. From then on, the image is prohibited from being changed until a new vote is called. However, to my knowledge there is no existing policy to say when it would be alright for a new vote to be called. Conceivably, a user could call for another vote right after the previous one, which would unnecessarily clutter up the discussion pages and lead to animosity between users who might frequently abuse the privelege.
I propose setting a time frame, perhaps one month, after a vote on matters like this ends before a new vote can be called. I'd like to know if anybody else feels this is necessary, or if there are any other voting-related matters besides infobox pictures in which setting a time-frame might be appropriate.

I was actually thinking about this the other day. I agree with you, 100% there needs to be a stated policy on the amount of time. Although I would say at least 3 months, not 1. -- Ratneer Owl Me! 18:11, December 24, 2009 (UTC)
- I agree we need to set a waiting period to prevent counterproductive disputes over main images. One month strikes me as too short, though, because it would basically mean that a user could call for a new main image vote on the same article every four weeks — gaming the system, but technically following the rules. I think a more effective option might be to have two waiting periods: one for the article in general and one for the user who called for the last vote. In other words, if User:ABC called for a main image vote on Talk:Hermione Granger, then no one else could call another vote on that article for a month, and ABC for another 3 months. Unless new, higher-quality publicity photos are released, in which case I think it might be okay to call another vote even if the one-month waiting period isn't up. But, to prevent new publicity photos from being used by someone as an excuse to start up yet another vote, only admins should have the power to call another vote before the waiting period has ended. ★ Starstuff (Owl me!) 19:31, December 24, 2009 (UTC)
- That's good. I was initially thinking three months too, but with new pics being uploaded here daily, I was concerned about committing to one pic for an extended period if a better one were to show up a short time later. - Nick O'Demus 22:58, December 24, 2009 (UTC)
