SO HERE'S THE PROBLEM:[]
When you drink polyjuice potion, does your voice change to that of the person you are impersonating?
Examples:
1. Chamber of Secrets- Harry and Ron DO NOT get Crabbe and Goyle's voice
2. Goblet of Fire- Barty Crouch, Jr. DOES get Mad-Eye Moody's voice
3. Deathly Hallows- Seven Potters DO NOT get Harry's voice
4. Deathly Hallows- Hermione DOES NOT get Bellatrix's voice
Can anyone explain this?
I'm pretty sure that in all the books, the voice DOES change to the person you're impersonating. In the movies, it DOES NOT. Why? I don't know:( Hope that helps.
In the books it is SURE that the voices changes. One theory from me is, that the filmmakers feared that the children who look the film, could not understand this when there is a total transformation and also changing of the voice. The voice of Harry to the body of Gregory Goyle seems to them more plausible, possibly. But they can't do that with Alastor Moody and Barty Crouch, Jr. A whole year and never forgotten to change the voice? Even when he is stressed or angry? That's impossible. Bellatrix in Gringotts with Hermione Granger's voice. The goblins would have known at once what is wrong. That also could not be. They changed when they must and they don't when they think it is possible and easier to understand. But that is only my opinion and must not be true. Harry granger 19:53, July 14, 2011 (UTC)
ANSWER
When using the polyjuice potion in the films you do not get the voice of the person you become, Barty Crouch Jr in the film imitates Moodys and shows he is good at imitating peoples voices by doing an impression to Harry of Hargrid saying 'marvellous creatures dragons aren't they' sort of mocking hagrid, as soon as Crouch lets slip about the graveyard even though Harry did not mention it. In deathly hallows part II Hermionie does not get bellatrixes voice if you remember she asks harry and ron how she looks and it is deffinately her voice, but you are right in the books it allows you to take on the voice of the person you change into they obviously did it because children watching would forget whos changed into who and what not, hope this helps. I think it has something to do with biology. Your body is transformed into someone elses, so your mouth, teeth, tongue and vocal cords would also change. But you are not used to use them like the person you are impersonating, so when first talking, you would achieve a voice resembling your own. Also, intonation and dialect / accent may need some getting used to. For example, Ron and Harry advise each other how to move properly like Crabbe and Goyle. And Barty Crouch Jr. kept Alastor Moody prisoner to get more information out of him, and perhaps also to copy him more thoroughly. I agree that the films intend to let the casual viewer know when someone is impersonating someone else. 178.190.152.219 17:10, March 27, 2012 (UTC)
I always assumed that in tthe movies, the potion always changes people's voices, and the movies just show the characters using their original voices for the audience's benefit. Malfory wouldn't be dumb enough to not notice the Crabbe and Goyle were talking in Harry and Ron's voices, and Griphook would have pointed out that the Gringotts Goblins would notice if Bellatrix was talking in a different voice than usual. Most likely, the characters always hear the voices changing, even if the audience doesn't.Icecreamdif 06:12, March 29, 2012 (UTC)
