I've always had a strong dislike for the thematic navigation templates that clutter up the bottom of many articles, such as Template:Quidditch positions, Template:Staff, and Template:Chocolate Frog Cards. These templates have always been unwieldy and unsightly, but now a significant portion of Wikia's readership view this website on mobile, on which they look even worse. I suggest we get rid of these templates. ★ Starstuff (Owl me!) 08:52, February 22, 2016 (UTC)
- Navboxes can be useful, but I agree the current format is ugly and should be cleaned up. If they can't be cleaned up, removing them is fine with me. :) --Sajuuk 09:59, February 22, 2016 (UTC)
- Sorry for resurrecting this, but as I've been working with some of these lately, I wanted to discuss. I think these can be improved both in style (drop the background colors) but also in usability by making them more hierarchical so that less is shown at once, but you can still navigate to other levels or items (see Weeoanwhisker's Barber Shop for a first draft of this approach I used to break up the Diagon Alley shops). I think something similar (or improved with suggestions) could be done for Quidditch Positions, Chocolate Frog Cards, etc and I'd be happy to give it a go.
- As I understand it, navboxes are currently hidden in the wikiamobile skin so that should address mobile for now? For structured content the navbox links offer the quickest way to access similar items so I think it's worth investigating if they can be improved enough to keep them around. --Ironyak1 (talk) 14:52, May 1, 2016 (UTC)
