Once again people are adding speculative and (in some cases) downright stupid pieces of information to the infoboxes. I've just reverted an edit to Dumbledore's article where someone had written: Possible sister-in-law, possible aunts, uncles and cousins, possible nieces and nephews, possible great-nieces and great-nephews. Apart from the fact that we don't know anything about Dumbledore's extended family (except his great-aunt Honoria) whatever Aberforth was doing to his goats I seriously doubt that we can class them as in-laws. Also people are still putting nicknames and derogatory insults in the alias field, such as "mudblood", "friend of mudblood", "Dumblydoor", "crackpot old fool" etc. I'd recommend establishing a policy whereby we define, and thefore restrict what information goes into the infobox, because frankly having to revert this nonsense on a regular basis is becoming tedious. We already have one one for the family field located here: Harry Potter Wiki:Character infobox family guidelines. I agree that a more broader restriction is needed, but sometimes you just can't account for idiocy. - Cavalier OneGryffindorcrest(Wizarding Wireless Network) 09:44, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Too true. However, with a policy would come repecussions for those who violate it. That might make people think before editing. Jayce DarkmarkAvada KedavraCrucioImperio 09:57, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
I think we should change that page from HPW:CIFG to "Harry Potter Wiki:Infobox policy" or something like that. Jayce, would you want to propose something? It should include what goes into each field in general for all infoboxes and which infoboxes get applied and when, etc. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 23:27, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
Also, even if its not policy: if people continue to do it after a warning it becomes vandalism. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 23:28, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

I guess so. I just think we should clearly define what, for example, an alias is. So that anything outside that defination gets removed. For example. An alias is a separate name or alter ego an individual assumes, usually to hide their true identity. So, in the case of Snape it would mean, "The Half-Blood Prince" is an acceptable alias, wheras "Snivellus", "Sev" and "YOU COWARD" are not. Thats the sort of thing I'm thinking of. I agree. Please propose an update to the page linked to above. -- DarkJedi613 (Talk) 22:13, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
Speculative information is acceptable in infoboxes when there is strong canon evidence supporting it. For example, Percival Dumbledore's infobox lists Honoria as "sister or sister-in-law," because while we know Honoria was Albus Dumbledore's aunt, we don't know how — was she Percival's sister or Kendra's sister? Dolores Umbridge's infobox lists the Death Eater Selwyn as a possible relative based on Umbridge's claim of being related to the Selwyn family in DH13.
Also, HPW:CIFG currently does not allow great-grandparents, great-uncles/aunts, and grand-nieces/nephews to be listed in infoboxes. I think this rule needs to have an exception that says it is okay to list such distant relatives if no nearer relatives are known, as in the case of Sybill Trelawney and her great-great-grandmother Cassandra Trelawney, or Bathilda Bagshot and her great-nephew Gellert Grindelwald. Ok, will do. As for Honoria, Dumbledore calls her his maiden aunt, so does that not make her Kendra's sister? Jayce DarkmarkAvada KedavraCrucioImperio 07:05, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
If you see unfounded speculation in an infobox, then by all means, cast a Vanishing Charm on it. ;) "Maiden aunt" means an aunt who never married, which tells us only that Honoria was blood aunt to Albus, as she couldn't have been his aunt by being the wife of his mother or father's brother. We still don't know whether she was the sister of Percival or Kendra, but I'd put my Galleons on Percival, because Kendra was Muggle-born (although Colin and Dennis Creevey prove that Muggle parents can have more than one magical child).
