Can we please stop posting as if the films take place the same time that the movies do? The films take place ten years after the books. It's really rather clear, in that the styles, props, muggle artifacts and the such are all from the early to mid thousands. They even go out of their way not to have anything past 2005 in OotP despite the film being made after 2005. Seriously people, get it through your heads that the movies are set from 2001-2007, ten years after the books. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Thundermatts (talkcontribs).

Even if, this would be considered a contradiction to the books, and would be noted in Behind the Scenes. --Rodolphus 18:03, October 29, 2009 (UTC)

Yes. Such anachronisms are to be noted in behind the scenes sections within the relevant articles. For the purpose of this wiki, it is assumed that the films take place at the same time as the books. Also, in the GoF film, the dates on Tom Riddle Sr.'s grave are the same as they were in the books. If they include the Godric's Hollow graveyard scene in the DH film, maybe this will finally be settled. - Nick O'Demus 01:44, October 30, 2009 (UTC)
The Daily Prophet covering the Gringotts break-in in PoA/f is dated August 24, 2001. However, on the Black family tree in OotP/f, Draco's year of birth is listed as 1980, which is consistent with the timeline of the novels. It seems that the filmmakers decided to adhere a little more rigidly to the timeline set by JKR at some point after the first film. Of course, while they're adhering to the timeline calendrically, they're not following it historically, because there's plenty of anachronisms in the films (the Dursleys owning a flat-panel TV and the Gryffindors listening to The Ordinary Boys in OotP/f). I suppose this could be explained by assuming that the films are set in an alternate universe where history progressed differently. Starstuff (Owl me!) 02:37, October 30, 2009 (UTC)
