When you look something up on Wikipedia, it always shows how to pronounce the word, name, etc. (ex. Albus Dumbledore--AL-bus DUM-bel-dor) I thought it might be helpful to do the same here, just to help out people who are new to the series. What do you think? Sounds like a good idea, but a lot of work. Plus, we would need a Pronunciation Key and we would have worry about all the possible pronounciations. (Like Voldemort vs Voldemor (t silent in French, JKR said), which would we use? Or show both?) And then how would we determine all of the accentuations, that can vary from American to British, no? Har-RY POT-ter to HAR-ry Pot-TER. I do not know, I am not good with knowing what is accented. Sounds great, but complicated. It could be done, but it would be a slow, agonizing process. I say, come up with a pronounciation key first, decide whether to show ALL possible pronounciations or just like the British preferred one, etc. and then worry about editing every single article. Using http://ipa.typeit.org/, Dictionary.com and Wikipedia.com as references, I wrote the following:
Harry James Potter (American pronunciation: /ˈhɛər.i: ˈdʒeɪmz ˈpɒ.tər/ British: /ha:ˈri: ˈdʒeɪmz pŏtˈər/; born July 31, 1980) was...
I am not completely sure if that is the right IPA spelling, or if I accented it correctly. But I used http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arnold_Schwarzenegger as a model for the double pronounciation. It is an idea. If we implement this, it will encourage others to include the pronunciation for other members. You could start with the Potters (already having ˈpɒ.tər and pŏtˈər figured out - according to Dictionary.com) and then eventually move toward more and more articles.
