Okay... so as quite a few editors here will know, there are two similar wikis, known as Potterpedia and the Potter Dictionary Wiki.

They (is it okay if I say "we" seeing how I'm one of the only three on each one?) have a slight problem in that each only has three regular contributors. I'm not asking to put up big balloons or anything, but I wondered if I could begin linking articles here onto articles there, and articles there onto articles here, and articles there onto articles on the other one, and so on.

So would it be all right if Potterpedia, Potter Dictionary and the Harry Potter Wiki linked to each other? --Hunnie Bunn (Owl me!) 20:53, January 26, 2013 (UTC)

I've said it before, but to reiterate, I think the idea of having alternative wikis that only cover information released by Rowling or only from the books is a great idea. I know for a fact that there are those who choose to simply avoid this wiki entirely because they don't like that information from movies or video games is treated as canon in lieu of information regarding certain areas in the books. That said, those browsing the wiki don't necessarily know why those links would be of any interest to them. For example, right now, the homepage for the Potter Dictionary is nothing more than a simple notice of schedule updates and a reminder against vandalism. The wikis need to have definition, branding, people need to know that these are the places to go if they want to find out about anything Harry Potter without being bothered by information that isn't from Rowling, or not from the books respectively. Also, they need to know that they're going to find interesting information, so I'd be wary of linking to something like the Knight Bus, because I can't see the point of sending people off the site to look at page, only for them to get three lines of information that they could have easily learned about here.
P.S.: If you would like to make either of those wikis affiliates of this one, I'd be willing to do it right away, so long as you have logos ready to use. ProfessorTofty (talk) 21:21, January 26, 2013 (UTC)
I'm not quite sure I understand... I take it you're for the idea, but I wanted to make sure. As for the main page of Potter Dictionary, I'm working on that; in regards to the size of the pages, I wanted to get all of the subjects on there first and then work on expanding it, but I see now that that's a bad idea. As for logos, do you mean the boxes in the top left corner, like we have the lightning-y one for this one and the decorative one with the picture of Harry for Potterpedia? --Hunnie Bunn (Owl me!) 21:31, January 26, 2013 (UTC)
O. k., you want my opinion. A link between the other wikis and this wiki could be helpful for the new wikis as advertising. But I can also understand ProfessorTofty. Linking from a full article to a stub article is a problem. Linking to full articles would be o. k. Perhaps we all, you, ProfessorTofty and me, should expand the articles on Potterpedia and you and me on Potter Dictionary. Use from ProfessorTofty here is of course appreciated! Generally I find it's a good idea to have also links between wikis of the same language and theme when there are enough differences that both or all could find their "fans" what I think is here the case. But I don't know what the Community Central thinks about it. By interlanguage links they only link one to one and never more. I know this because I am admin on the german Harry-Potter-Lexicon. This wiki has a link to this wiki here but not vice versa, because the english Harry Potter Wiki has a link to the german Harry Potter Wiki and another link is not allowed despite there are more similarities between this wiki and the german Lexicon - IMHO. So one question is: Is it allowed to link wikis with the same theme and language to one another? Perhaps that should be clarified before. But o. k., I generally would appreciate such links.  Harry granger   Talk   contribs 22:32, January 26, 2013 (UTC)
I'm afraid I'm more confused than ever now... are we for the idea or against it? And of course if it isn't allowed then we shouldn't do so. But you both are right that it wouldn't do for a full, well-written article to link to a stub, and so I suppose we ought to at least wait until we have decent-sized pages (half a year to a year, then?) before we proceed with the linking then? --Hunnie Bunn (Owl me!) 22:57, January 26, 2013 (UTC)
I think to wait would be a good idea, but as I wrote, I am generally PRO.

I am for the idea in principle, but at the moment, not so much as a practical matter. I'd say at the moment, focus on making a select few pages on each of those wikis the best that they can be. Maybe ones for smaller subjects or ones of high interest, such as Lavender Brown, pages where what those wikis are going to offer is likely going to be highly different from what's here at the Harry Potter Wiki. Also, with the Potter Dictionary Wiki, make the changes I suggested; make it very clear what the purpose of the wiki is, perhaps through both the homepage and community messages. I can't really say I'm for the idea of linking articles to other wikis (especially since those other wikis are, no offense, a bit small right now), but we do have a section on the Main Page with links to a few other Potter-related wikis. I'd be fine with adding links to those wikis there. - Nick O'Demus 03:33, February 1, 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, if we can get some logos, I'd be glad to have it linked on there. ProfessorTofty (talk) 03:59, February 1, 2013 (UTC)
