It says in Harry Potter wiki that he played chaser in the gyriffindor team. Yet in the fifth book, in the pensive, he is playing with a snitch. And i think (im not sure) but doesnt someone mention james potter as a seeker in the first harry potter?

James is only said to have been a Seeker in the film adaptation of Philosopher's Stone. JKR stated in a 2000 interview that James played Chaser and Rowling's word is decisive. As for James toying around with a Snitch in the "Snape's Worst Memory" chapter of OotP, he was trying to impress Lily at the time, and the fact that he chose a Snitch to do so doesn't prove he was a Seeker — only that he had access to Quidditch equipment and thought the Snitch looked cooler than the Quaffle or Bludgers. ★ Starstuff ^{(Owl me!)} 05:23, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

Just to add in: During that flashback, James admits to Lupin, Sirius, and Pettigrew that he 'nicked it.' That doesn't necessarily prove that he is a seeker, just that he stole the snitch and 'had really good reflexes.'
