Q.Is Dumbledore really gay?
A.Dumbledore is Gay.
Q.Is there any evidence in the books?
A.It is rumored that Dumbledore may have had a relationship with Gellert Grindelwald before they became enemys. J.K. Rowling describes their relationship as close freinds. There is no more evidence than that.
Q.Is J.K. Rowling just saying it to attract attention?
A. No J.K. Rowling has always pictured Dumbledore as gay. Years before she announced this she had told a young fan who asked why Dumbledore never married. The fan did not spread it around. So when Rowling was asked this same question by the press, she told them that she had always pictured Dumbledore as gay. Soon after this Micheal Gambon asked if it had any thing to do with the way he played Dumbledore, Rowling replyed, No.

- Here are transcipts of a couple of interviews where JKR discussed that:
- Nick O'Demus 03:29, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
EWWW !!!!! PLEASE HAVE MORE RESPECT FOR DUMBELDORE !!!....this the worst question ever....insulting my favourite character !!!!.....u cant call him such things just because he was close friends with gellert !!! i feeling like reporting this question to a admin !! despicable !!!!! --Beautiful altar 11:21, October 23, 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, but it is a canon facr, not an insult.--Rodolphus 12:03, October 23, 2009 (UTC)
- Also, since when is saying that Dumbledore is gay is offensive? Like Rodolphus pointed out, it's a canon fact and not disrespectful in the least bit. Dumbledore is my favourite character too, and I'm OK with it. -- Seth Cooper owl post! 12:18, October 23, 2009 (UTC)
- A few more relevant interviews to add to the ones listed above:

yeah...even though i agree its not a big deal...and all...yet...it doesnt sound right. for some people (not me) it ruins dumbeldores reputation...please..i hope you understand what i mean..--Beautiful altar 05:39, October 24, 2009 (UTC)
I know this is going to annoy the hell out of some people, but....
It's mentioned that Dumbledore loved Harry a hell of a lot.
Sorry, had to put it out there :) LilyG 10:27, October 24, 2009 (UTC)
Lol, yeah that is the impression you get by that line. Of course, we all know that Dumbledore's love for Harry was strictly platonic and grandfatherly.--Yin&Yang 12:17, October 25, 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, but just in case, to head off any slashfic discussions before they start:
- Rowling said that Dumbledore led "a celibate and bookish life".[1]
- Rowling also said that Dumbledore loved Harry "like a son".[2]
- Nick O'Demus 12:27, October 25, 2009 (UTC)
Okay, so it was more like paternal love. Still, personally I think that to say that Dumbledore considered Harry almost like a son is quite close to exaggeration. Well, I think we all see each character differently.--Yin&Yang 03:37, October 26, 2009 (UTC)
Nah, I don't think son... Maybe nephew. Or close relative. Or student who has the ability to save the wizarding world. LilyG 07:35, October 26, 2009 (UTC)
This discussion is going nowhere. Dumbledore is gay. End of story. Jayden Matthews 08:23, October 26, 2009 (UTC)
Dumbledore is gay in Rowling's eyes, but that doesn't mean that he is in everyone else's. Her exact words were, "I've always thought Dumbledore as gay". Although opinions are obviously not welcome in the article pages, everyone is entitled to imagine the characters their own way so to each his own.--Yin&Yang 08:45, October 27, 2009 (UTC)
- This isn't just some random person expressing an opinion. She's the author. She created the entire series and every character within, including him. Furthermore, when she outed him to the HBP scriptwriters, she didn't say "I think Dumbledore's gay", she said "Dumbledore's gay". If some people can't accept this on a personal level, well that's their perogative, but as far as the actual canon of the series is concerned, yes, Dumbledore is gay. Denying this has no more canonical validity than denying that Sirius Black died, or that Harry married Ginny and Ron married Hermione. - Nick O'Demus 09:27, October 27, 2009 (UTC)
Rowling is the definitive source for canonical information on Harry Potter. She has said that Dumbledore is gay, so he is. And as you (Yin&Yang) have been told several times now - this is not the place to discuss your opinions on Harry Potter. Jayden Matthews 09:10, October 27, 2009 (UTC)
Okay, it seems you both misunderstood me. I know that J.K. Rowling is right about everything Harry Potter and unless you haven't realised by now, I am a fan of her as much as I am a fan of her Harry Potter creation itself. I do not have personalised problems with her choice of Dumbledore's sexual orientation and I have no problem with her announcement of it either. However, just as she had "always thought Dumbledore as gay" (a quote which I know is correct), I have always considered him as just too busy with his lifestyle to marry a woman. That is just how I imagined him and that is all I meant. I know the facts, but I was just giving a small piece of information of my opinion which, I know Jayden, is not technically allowed on this site but I had hoped that you would do me the small favor of letting it pass. I didn't proclaim it in my usual long-answered fashion. It was just a small aside - a way to close the forum that was all. Sorry if I offended anyone, but that wasn't my intention.--Yin&Yang 10:00, October 27, 2009 (UTC)
It's fine, but this has to stop. Both you and beautiful altar were warned by Cavalier One that continued engaging and encouragement of these trivial general discussion forums would violate policy. Yet you have both continued to do so more than ever. I'm just saying you may find yourself banned unless you start to follow policy. Jayden Matthews 10:08, October 27, 2009 (UTC)
Alright. Henceforth, I will simply ignore those types of forums to prevent encouraging them. If they do appear, though, it is up to the admins to delete them so I just hope they do so as often as possible.--Yin&Yang 10:30, October 27, 2009 (UTC)
okay wait...this is wrong ! and unfair !!! even though i said "eww" and all ...later i did say...yeah...even though i agree its not a big deal...and all...yet...it doesnt sound right. for some people (not me) it ruins dumbeldores reputation...please..i hope you understand what i mean..' i have clearly stated i have no problem and my reaction was clearly for dumbeldores reputation in others point of view...no matter how much u all will hate this....i have to say that "yin&yang" is not wrong in giving HIS point of view...even though this is on J.K Rowlings point of view, it doesn't hurt to give extra information....my apologies to anyone who does not agree with me...but i had most certainly dropped this topic when i was told to...and i will only comment again if i am falsely accused of continuing more than ever...because i never spoke again until i was forced to....i hope i have made my point clear...i admit i was wrong...but still stay true to what i just said "above"....sorry if i violated the policy or what not........--Beautiful altar 11:36, October 27, 2009 (UTC)
It's neither wrong or unfair. It's the rules, which you have chosen to ignore again and again despite being warned several times. You are both entitled to your opinions, but this is not, nor has it ever been the place to discuss them. As long as you now understand this then there's no problem. Jayden Matthews 12:25, October 27, 2009 (UTC)
I have already stated that I won't keep leaving messages in the more trivial forums but I would like to point out, that having re-read my own comments from above I now realise that I had never given my 'opinion' per se. All I had written was that not everyone regards Dumbledore as gay. It wasn't an opinion - it was fact. Several people still do not see Dumbledore as gay. It wasn't a reflection on myself just, as I said before, a small aside to end the forum. Everything I wrote about Dumbledore's grandfatherly attitude towards Harry relates to the relationships of characters - something included in most character articles. I think the warnings, therefore, were misdirected. Still, I will not discuss anything more than what relates to the wiki's articles from now on nor will I engage in any casual conversations with other editors; I just wanted to justify my previous comments.--Yin&Yang 23:00, October 27, 2009 (UTC)
no offence what so ever jayden but you can't tell me what to do or not to do !!!! and i think you shud read properly because i DID NOT ignore anything because i admitted my mistake !!!if u just keep thinking i do so.. then fine...i won;'t interfere in what you think is your forum !!!!! even IF yin&yang thinks you are right or what not...i agree with his firswt point and WILL not give in !!!!! ban me if u want...i don't care, you will loose the little reputation you have !!! but dare you ever act as if i was wrong !!! beacause i was right ( to an extent) !!! --Beautiful altar 11:30, October 28, 2009 (UTC)
- The rules Jayden is referring to are this wiki's Editing Policy, which states, among other things:
- "The Harry Potter Wiki's Editing policy is meant to encourage users to work more on articles, and not spend all of their time on customizing their userpages or posting in the forums."
- "The Harry Potter Wiki is not a forum for discussion of Harry Potter."
- "Excessive forum editing, in this case, is defined as over 10% of a user's total edits in the Forum domain."
- "In cases of excessive forum edits, admins will offer a warning, followed by a two-day ban. If a user continues to not make edits in useful domains, they will be banned."
- Would it surprise you to learn that your Edit Count percentage in forums alone currently stands at 88%? - 11:57, October 28, 2009 (UTC)
And under the rules Nick O'Demus has kindly supplied, both Beautiful altar and Yin&Yang have earned administrative warnings for their excessive forum editing. As of now, this forum thread is closed. I allowed it to stay open due to the informative nature and the links provided. It has since devolved into a conversation. - Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 12:20, October 28, 2009 (UTC)
