- Policy adopted Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 08:01, August 4, 2010 (UTC)
Following on from the successful tidying of the Wiki's blogs, I now propose to implement an Image Policy to help us keep the large amount of images on the Wiki ordered and tidied.
Firstly, to enforce the use of Template:Information on all image uploads. This template is a small infobox that allows the uploader to enter information regarding the image, its licensing, and the categories it belongs to. To see it in action, see this image. The Information box is below the image, and contains all relevant data. I want to make this standard for all image uploads. The Information template has already been hard-coded onto the file upload page.
Secondly, a policy on image use:
Proposed policy
Deletion
- An image will be speedy deleted as soon as an administrator finds it if:
- No description for the image has been presented.
- No source for the image has been presented. Acceptable sources include all canonical and official Harry Potter products.
- No licensing information for the image has been presented.
- The image does not qualify as fair use.
- If an image is uploaded exclusively to be showcased in a gallery, it does not qualify as fair use.
- Images that do not fall under the speedy deletion criteria should be deleted through Harry Potter Wiki:Images and media for deletion (page will be created upon adoption of the policy).
- If an image is obvious vandalism or a low-quality duplicate, it may be tagged for speedy deletion.
Sources
- Do not upload images found on an image search engine such as Google Images.
- Do not upload images found on any website other than an officially licensed site, or recognised fan community site (Mugglenet, etc) which has access to official images and news.
- Do not upload any file which is simply a resized and not otherwise altered version of an image that already exists on the Wiki.
Duplicate images
- Duplicate images should not be uploaded unless intended to replace a lower quality version of the same image. Obvious duplicate images will be speedy deleted.
Quality
- Images should be of the highest quality possible; in the case of duplicate images, the highest quality image is kept.
Formatting
- Images should ideally be formatted using the {{Information}} template.
- Always tag your image with one of the image copyright tags.
- Always specify on the description page where the image came from, such as a URL (for official websites), or the name of the source from which the image is scanned or captured. Don't put credits in images themselves.
- Use a clear, recognizable, non-duplicated filename. Note that if any image with the same title has already been uploaded, it will be replaced with your new one.
- Do not upload content with false descriptions, sources, or copyright tags. The image will be deleted.
- Images should be categorised by source, subject, and type.
While it will be a lot of work to insert the template on the large number of files, and to categorise and source the images properly, I feel that it will help us to achieve a level of organisation to the file bank that we have been lacking. We have a large amount of images on this Wiki, and some type of organisation is sorely needed. As we have tidied up the blogs, I feel that this is the next logical step. --Cavalier One(Wizarding Wireless Network) 11:07, July 14, 2010 (UTC)
Voting: Voting will comply with HPW voting policies: Only autoconfirmed registered users with greater than 20 mainspace article edits, whose first edit was more than one month prior to the date of this proposal (14th July, 2010) are allowed to vote. The vote will remain open for two weeks, unless a snowball vote occurs, in which case it can be closed early by an administrator.
