I think it wasn't the fact that Ginny was underage, but the fact that her family didn't want her in the battle. After all, Collin Creevy was seen in the battle, as well as many other underage DA members. I do remember that McGonagall was trying to send all underage students home, but she had trouble with the Gryffindors, so I assume a lot of them snuck into the battle and fought. (I don't have the book with me to check on, but I think I have the right info. I'm sorry if I'm confused.) I hope that helps. QuidditchLover
