I was just wondering if anyone knew where year 1998 for the final Battle of Hogwarts came from. It seems to be the agreed year, however on lookinat the JKR's hand-written Weasely family tree (decending from Molly and Arthur), she's written Fred Weasley d. 1997. As Fred died in the Battle of Hopgwarts, shouldn't the year of the battel be 1997? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 188.8.131.52 (talk • contribs).
- That is a maths mistake on Rowling's behalf. In Chamber of Secrets, Nearly-Headless Nick's deathdate is given as 31 October, 1492. As this was on his 500th deathday party, the events in Chamber of Secrets take place in the 1992-1993 school year. Thus, the events in Deathly Hallows take place in the 1997-1998 school year. The Battle of Hogwarts happened on 2 May, meaning it was after the New Year and, yes, in early 1998. -- 16:13, June 27, 2011 (UTC)
