On Harry Potter Wiki it classifies the books by the year they are supposed to take place in. The first book which was released in 1997 is said to take place in 1991, but how was this decided?? Can someone please explain why the books take place from 1991 to 1998 and how this came to be? 184.108.40.206 08:31, 11 July 2009 (UTC)LarryPotter
In the second book, Sir Nicolas dem Mimsy Porpington celebrates his 500th deathday and is said to have died in 1492.
1492 + 500 years = 1992.
Thus, the second book took place in 1992-1993 and the other books in the years before and after 1992.--Rodolphus 08:43, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
