I'd like to determine who is missing from Harry's year level, ie. who has not been named. Assuming that there are 5 boys and 5 girls in each house;

Gryffindor

  • Romilda Vane Edit: based on evidence in the books, it is very likely that Romilda Vane was younger than Harry and possibly even younger than Ginny. Her own wikipedia page states she was likely born in 1981 or 1982. It also states she began Hogwarts in 1993. Even if this is contradictory, it is still unlikely that she was in Harry's year. She was not mentioned in the first few books at all and her appearances showed her, initially, as rather vain and much like a young teenage girl with a crush. Neither Lavender Brown or Parvati Patil, who were in Harry's year, ever showed him the type of obsessive hero worship that Romilda Vane did after he was outed as the chosen one. I believe this is due to closer proximity to him as his year mates. It was similar to how Colin Creevey (also younger than Harry) viewed him.

Millicent Bullstrode is in Slytherin and Bem is not canon as he is not in the books. You should be able to find a few by reading the sorting ceremony in the first book. Christophee (talk) 12:48, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Eloise Midgen is probably a Hufflepuff but that is unconfirmed. ShirleyA 10:17, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Also, there is a good chance that Zacharias Smith is in Harry's year, but that is never confirmed either. Christophee (talk) 15:52, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

The last missing Ravenclaw boy is Kevin Entwhistle, according to Harry Potter and me.

Also, a student named Smith appeared on this list, most likely Zacharias.

Eloise Midgen is not known to be in Harry´s year. In the films (not canon!) she was a Gryffindor.--Rodolphus 16:02, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

I was thinking about it and i can't seem to think that it's 5 boys and 5 girls in each year as the Sorting Hat thought about putting Hermione in Ravenclaw and how could it if it could only have 5 in there also what if you have loads of courage and there were already 10 people sprted into Gryffindor do you really think the sorting hate would've shoved you into Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff?--Miniwally^{(Owl me!)} 09:31, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

JK said that there are about 144 students accepted into Hogwarts each year, so there would definitely be more than 5 boys and 5 girls in a house in each year group and it would not be spread evenly, each student would go into the house they are best suited.

Also, there is a girl named Lily Moon - from what I've seen here, she should either be in Slytherin or Hufflepuff, I think.

JKR never gave a precisous number of students. We just know that in Harry's year, there are only 40 students, 10 per house.

Some names were replaced by JKR when she wrote the book. Gary Thomas was replaced with Dean Thomas, Mati Patel was replaced with Calì Patil, Trevor Boot was replaced with Tarry Boot, Madhari Patel was replaced with Padma Patil, Isobel McDougal with Morag MacDougal and Queenie Greengrass with Daphne Greengrass.

 Hanthony and Michael are actually Ravenclaw students. This means that two of the original Ravenclaw students are now Hufflepuff students. Tarry is certainly a Ravenclaw student, so the possible Hufflepuff students are Stephen Cornfoot, Kevin Entwhistle, Roger Malone and Oliver Rivers. I would say that Stephen Cornfoot is a Hufflepuff, just because in the alphabetic order, he follows Terry (a Ravenclaw). Basing on my assumption, Oliver Rivers is the other Hufflepuff.

About the unknown houses students, we know that two of them are Gruffindor, other two are Hufflepuff and another is Slytherin.

Lily Moon is a sort of Luna Lovegood, so I'd place her in Hufflepuff, because Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw are the suitest houses for a strange and lunatic girl.

Sally SMITH. Zacharias Smith (who is a year below Harry) was in Hufflepuff and he was also a possible ancestor of Helga Hufflepuff. I assumed that Sally was Zacharias's older sister or his cousin and that she was sorted in Hufflepuff.

JKR stated that she knew the names of the "missing Gryffindor girls", so they must be Sally-Ann and Sophie, while the girl whose name is unknown and whose last name is Runcorn is in Slytherin. The fact the two girls didn't join ES and Sally-Anne disappeared before the fifth year consolidate my theory.GianG (talk) 16:54, December 10, 2014 (UTC)
