Many of the characters (especially, the first son) have their middle name the same as their father. Take for example, Harry James Potter, William Arthur Weasley, Teddy Remus Lupin, and Albus Percival W. B. Dumbledore. Also, for females, Ginny's middle name is the same as her mother's forename. Is this a common practice in Britain (parent's name for middle name) or is it just something J. K. Rowling does often (maybe it is common for wizards)? If so, can we speculate those with known middle names might be that of their parents? Hermione Jean Granger's mother might be Jean and Cornelius Oswald Fudge's father could have been named Oswald. And then it might be possible to guess the middle names of characters: Sirius Orion Black, Ariana Kendra Dumbledore, Hugo Ronald Weasley, Rose Hermione Weasley, Neville Frank Longbottom, Draco Lucius Malfoy, Lucius Abraxas Malfoy, etc. I know none of it is canon, but I got this thought when I was reading the Mr. Lupin article, that suggests he might have been John Lupin. Should any of it be considered trivia? 24.49.35.99 06:57, July 22, 2010 (UTC)

All references in the wiki have to be based on fact and sources. Extrapolating middle names doesnt work as it is not proven canon and there is no rule mentioned by JK. 86.151.147.68 09:21, July 22, 2010 (UTC)

So should we strike out the trivia in the Mr. Lupin article? Or can we, like in the aforementioned article, say it is a possibility.24.49.35.99 02:34, July 26, 2010 (UTC)

It would be blatant speculation, and if it is on any article it should be removed. --JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 02:58, July 26, 2010 (UTC)--JKochRavenclawcrest(Owl Me!) 02:58, July 26, 2010 (UTC)
It might be worth a BTS mention if the character's middle name is known but the parent's isn't (such as Remus John Lupin), as it does seem to be a fairly common practice by Rowling, but keep in mind that there are exceptions (Scorpius Hyperion Malfoy), and we don't know if characters like Neville and Lucius even have middle names. - 12.51.4.122 05:03, July 26, 2010 (UTC)
