So, on many pages, people's houses are listed as possible based off family members. For instance, most Blacks and Malfoys are listed as being possible Slytherins, and Ted Tonks is listed as a possible Hufflepuff because of his daughter. But this is not consistent: in particular, we've actively resisted having Gryffindor listed as possible houses on the pages for Harry's children. I think we need to make a decision on this point: do we list possible houses based on family loyalties or not? Consistency is needed. -- 1337star (Owl Post) 19:55, January 28, 2012 (UTC)

I can almost understand with a Weasley because of the Sorting Hat saying "Another Weasley, eh? I know just what to do with you! Gryffindor!" At least, in the movie, anyway. But then there are other cases where despite the family affiliation, the Sorting Hat ended up placing the person in question elsewhere, such as Sirius Black. Personally, I would be in favor of removing all House speculation - it just puts ideas in peoples' heads that may or may not be true. ProfessorTofty 20:07, January 28, 2012 (UTC)
Indeed. Speculation should be stripped from the articles where applicable. The only exception may be the recent Blacks due to comments that Sirius was the only Black within recent memory to have not been a Slytherin. - Cavalier OneGryffindorcrest(Wizarding Wireless Network) 20:10, January 28, 2012 (UTC)
I agree. When you think about it, and deploy reductio ad absurdum, you end up with the cases of Lorcan and Lysander Scamander: while their great-granddad Newton was a Hufflepuff, their mother was a Ravenclaw. If we were to list their houses according to those of their family members, we would have to say they were simultaneously in Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff. --  Seth Cooper  owl post! 01:08, January 30, 2012 (UTC)
And nothing wrong with that now - I'm sure if we look carefully, we can find plenty of examples of students that were sorted simultaneously into two different houses... oh, wait... :D ProfessorTofty 01:13, January 30, 2012 (UTC)
