The more important question is: How was Harry still the master of the Elder Wand? Voldemort beat him!--Wit beyond measure is man's greatest treasure. (talk) 02:25, October 11, 2010 (UTC)

No, Harry planned to let Voldemort kill him, similar to how Dumbeldore intended for Snape to kill him. It doesn't count as "defeat" if it's intentional. - 03:15, October 11, 2010 (UTC)

Lol I figured it out right after I posted.--Wit beyond measure is man's greatest treasure. (talk) 03:51, October 11, 2010 (UTC)

Yeah semantics, the Elder wand is not unbeatable and therefore does not make one invincible or impervious to defeat. What is said is that it makes the wielder near unbeatable in a duel no one has ever said someone with it couldn't possibly be beat...........after all if that were true how did the first brother lose the wand in the first place. It is clear explicitly in the legends that to gain possession of the wand you must defeat its last owner67.183.100.160 09:55, June 22, 2012 (UTC)

It requires a duel for it to win. You have to see it coming. So sneaking up on them or stealing it... But how did Dumbledore not outright defeat Voldemort in the order of the pheonix?

The Elder wand is not all powerful and it does not make you invincible or an undefeatable duelist. The Elder wand like all other wands is a tool and as such does not make one a more adept wizard. At the end of the day skill and determination can overturn any obstacle. 09:59, August 17, 2012 (UTC)

Did Grindelwald defeat in a duel Gregorovich to get his Elder Wand ? It seems to me that Grindelwald obtained the Elder Wand by stealing it. So how come he became the master of the wand ?Shengtom (talk) 14:56, March 10, 2013 (UTC)
