I will be deleting all articles and content based on Cursed Child spoilers. There is no way we can please everyone here; we've already contorted ourselves trying, and it's proven a drain on our resources. It bothers me that this is essentially surrendering to "#KeepTheSecrets," the moralistic campaign to dictate to Harry Potter fans that they shouldn't read spoilers for the play even if they want to do so, but I've come to realize that there is no practical way for us, as a wiki, to implement spoiler content in articles at this stage.

Editors are still free to discuss spoilers on talk pages (using Template:cc-spoilerbox of course). You can also work on draft articles based on spoiler content (keep everything in the spoilerbox, of course). You can work on drafts by yourself by creating subpages in your personal userspace, or you can create a draft space open to everyone to edit by creating a sub-page of the talk page of the would-be article.

Notice: This section contains spoilers from Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

The four existing mainspace articles based on spoiler content have been moved to Talk:Delphi/Draft article, Talk:Craig Bowker/Draft article, and Talk:Voldemort Day/Draft article, Talk:Panju/Draft article.

Articles will be allowed in mainspace when the Cursed Child script book is released on July 31. Template:CursedChildSpoiler at the top of relevant articles should be sufficient warning when we go live. Starstuff (Owl me!) 21:42, June 14, 2016 (UTC)

Wow that was sudden - where did this come from? (I hope it wasn't me as I thought we had a good balance struck - I was just noting the strange times we find ourselves in and the irony in the comment from offhourpost (whose summary seems to be the most complete) questioning using her as a source for the wiki.)
Either way is going to be a drain on resources - either warring to keep stuff under wraps or warring to keep it off the site entirely. (given we don't have an official source, I don't think we can just let it all stand, although that would take up the least resources).
As more and more sources align (eg mugglecast has a full of spoilers review up today), I think most of the play details have legs to stand on, I just don't want to help ruin it for people who wish to read it or see it for themselves first, hence my push and concerted effort to maintain spoiler protection. Any room for discussion on this and possibly finding some new balance?
ETA: mugglecast did a twitter poll and out of the ~1000 respondants 52% are avoiding all spoilers while the remainder have choosen to read some minor or major spoilers. The HP community seems split evenly on this so no easy answer how to handle this material; I would still argue for returning to the balanced arrangment with hidden spoiler sections we had previously. --Ironyak1 (talk) 23:06, June 14, 2016 (UTC)
I'm not happy with the abrupt about-face, either, but the last week has been something of an experiment. It's proven too difficult trying to cobble together full articles out of bits and pieces from various reports. When we went ahead with the previous strategy last week, I was assuming there would be many more reports coming out, and that at least one or two of them would be an extremely detailed play-by-play. This hasn't manifested, unfortunately, so we've been left with insufficient information with which to work. I'd love to continue offering proper articles on Cursed Child content, but, at this stage in the game, we can't be sure that the reports on the play that have come out are free from errors and hoaxes. I imagine most of the information is pretty sound, but, sadly, the only way to completely prevent incorrect or bogus info from finding its way into articles is to disallow spoiler content in mainspace until the script book is out. And it's probably best to reverse course now, when only a small amount of spoiler content has been added to a few articles, than down the line when it is more spread out and difficult to root out.
In the meantime, anyone who's inclined can help work on draft articles, and that way we'll have near-complete articles that we can polish up and post within a day or two of the book release. I hope we've got a fast reader in our community who can blast through the book in a day.
In other news, I'm now the proud owner of a copy of the The Artifact Vault. :) Starstuff (Owl me!) 02:35, June 15, 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for chatting this through with me - I think I have my head wrapped around it now! If anyone wants to start a Cursed Child draft article for an existing character or topic, the best path is probably to add {{CursedChildDraft}} to the top of the article and save that. Then use the "Draft article" red link there to create the article in the Talk namespace. Add this code:

{{CursedChildSpoiler}}
{{Cc-spoilerbox|1=
<!-- ALL EDITS BELOW THIS LINE -->

<!-- ALL EDITS ABOVE THIS LINE -->
}}

and copy over any sections needed from the main article to add the Cursed Child details. See Talk:Albus Potter/Draft article as an example. If you run into trouble, leave a message here and someone should be able to help. Cheers --Ironyak1 (talk) 20:07, June 16, 2016 (UTC)
